When Heaven Feels Silent

Holding on to your faith when you don’t hear God speaking is not easy. Sometimes life happens in such a way that you begin to question God. “Why? What’s going on?”—and all you’re met with is silence. You’re trying to figure out what’s next, or even if there is a next. You keep walking, seeing so many other roads, and you wonder, “Do I turn? Do I keep going? Or do I just stop?” You truly don’t know what to do.

But here’s the truth: even in our uncertainty and even in God’s silence, He is still there—still seated at the right hand of the Father, still making intercession for us.

Remember Elijah in 1 Kings 19. He was exhausted, afraid, and ready to give up. He looked for God in the wind, the earthquake, and the fire—but God was not in any of those. Finally, there came a gentle whisper, and that’s where God spoke. Elijah had to learn that even when it seemed like God was silent, God was present. He was working, speaking softly, directing quietly.

So, what do we do in those moments of silence? We do what Elijah eventually did: we listen, we stay still, and we become intercessors ourselves. We pray. We stand in the gap. We trust that even if we cannot hear Him, God is answering the prayers of the saints, working behind the scenes, and guiding us—even if it’s only one small step at a time.
